Tips for Choosing a Diamond Wedding Ring Set

The acceptance of a marriage proposal is a very exciting and busy time. The betrothed couple often finds themselves with tons of things to do in a short period of time. The date must be set and the location must be chosen. The bride must choose her wedding dress. The reception must be planned. And of course, the wedding rings will need to be selected. Often, a diamond wedding ring set is an ideal choice for many couples who want to make things as simple as possible while retaining beauty and quality.

Most wedding sets will come with the diamond engagement ring and matching band. Some sets will also include the groom's ring, others will not. There is a great deal of selection when it comes to wedding jewelry sets. Let's first look at the different types of metals you can select from. The most popular metals for wedding bands and engagement rings are yellow gold, white gold, and platinum.

Yellow gold is often what people first think of when they think of gold. It comes in different concentrations, such as 14 karat, 18 karat and 24 karat. The higher the karat, the higher the percentage of pure gold. White gold is almost identical to yellow gold, except for it's silver shade. It must be plated with rhodium to achieve it's distinct color. Then there's platinum. Platinum is extremely pure and heavier than gold. It is almost the same color as white gold but much more durable and dazzling. Platinum is also much more expensive. However, it represents the finest in precious metals for wedding jewelry.

Now let's discuss the diamond. The majority of engagement rings in the average diamond wedding ring set feature a single diamond that can range in size from one-eighth of a carat to one or more carats. The higher the carat weight, the larger the diamond. Diamonds are not only judged on their carat weight, but their cut, clarity and color. Choosing a diamond ring is a matter of preference. There are many different cuts, colors and sizes to suit most everyone. To browse a variety of different wedding sets, visit some jewelry stores in your area or do some online research. After seeing a number of different sets, you'll have a better idea of what you like and what you don't like.
