Why Marriage Is A Good Idea For Good Living

Whether we like it or not, the reality is that a lot of couples in America are divorcing, and this statistic is especially high in this present day. But let us consider that despite these none-too-surprising statistics, there are a lot of benefits to staying together, and some of these benefits are related to one's physical, mental, psychological, and even financial health.

Research indicates that married people enjoy better health than singles. Married people enjoy longer life spans and lower risks of heart disease, depression, back pain and alcoholism.

Both husbands and wives prosper from marriage, benefiting from improved physical and mental health and better finances, but the men are especially healthier. As for the wives, financial stability is the most significant benefit.

The key to living a long, happily married life for most is commitment to the relationship and fidelity. These couples value the sacredness of marriage and believe in hard work and commitment to each other. Having similar values, as well as common passions and interests is also helpful in keeping these couples together.

Living in with your significant other before marriage isn't always the best thing to do, as the average married couple who has been together for years before matrimony has a greater tendency to lose interest and/or commitment and get divorced eventually. For cohabiting couples, the motivation to resolve conflicts isn't as great as the average married couple. Many believe, though, that cohabitation is the same deal as marriage, only without a marriage certificate. The studies also show cohabiting couples not enjoying all the benefits that married couples do. In terms of health, wealth and confidence, cohabiting couples are on the same level as singles. Once again, co-habitating couples aren't as committed as married couples, so that means they are usually more self-centered than a married man or woman.

There is one drawback to being a happily married man or woman, though, based on the studies. This drawback would be a tendency to gain weight, which is, unfortunately, very common for husbands and wives after marriage.

Married couples may get more health benefits than divorced men and women or cohabiting couples, but they must note the negative health effects of divorce. This is an even worse, or equal stress factor as the usual work-related stress singles and married people go through.
